So how does a bespoke briefcase order actually happen?
Somewhere out there, a buyer reads an article, watches a video, gets introduced by a friend, or shares a five-minute handshake with us at a trade show. That moment becomes an email. The email becomes a trip to our Guangzhou showroom. The showroom becomes a bag on your desk — and, if things go well, a partnership that lasts years.
That’s the short version. Everything below is the long, unglamorous, real version — the one your current OEM briefcase manufacturer probably won’t show you.
What no one in the industry tells you: most OEM relationships don’t die on price. They die in the gap between “we’ll get back to you” and actually getting back to you. A buyer asks about thread color, strap length, packaging — and three days later, nobody has an answer. By then, that buyer is already emailing your competitor.

How buyers actually find us
We don’t run aggressive outbound campaigns. Most new buyers come to us because:
- They read something we wrote — an article about full-grain leather, or how Chinese leather bag factories really operate
- They watched one of our videos and liked the way we talked
- A friend or another buyer referred them
- We met briefly at a trade show — just a handshake and a business card swap
Notice what’s missing? A cold sales call. We’d rather earn your curiosity first.
The email stage
The first email is almost never “I want 500 briefcases.” It’s usually shorter: “I came across your work — do you make bespoke briefcases for B2B buyers?”
We write back like a human, not a template. We ask about your market, your customers, your timeline. Sometimes a buyer comes in asking for a one-off executive bespoke briefcase, and ends up adding bulk portfolios for their corporate gifting line — that mix is actually our favorite kind of order. And if your design is clearly not our strength (we do leather — not plastic, not cheap PU, not giant rolling luggage), we’ll tell you straight. Better to lose an inquiry than waste your money.

Why we have invited you to Guangzhou
Email is fine. But it’s not the same as standing in our showroom, picking up a bag, smelling the leather, running your thumb over the stitching.
So we invite buyers to Guangzhou — to our showroom and our factory. You see the production line, you meet the workers who’ll actually make your bags, you touch the samples before we cut a single hide.
We’re based in Baiyun District, up in the north of Guangzhou, conveniently close to Baiyun International Airport — so flying in is genuinely easy on you. Once your flights are booked, our sales team will help plan the route; if you’d like, we can also arrange airport pickup or call a car to meet you at the station. And if you’ve got a free day before or after the visit, we’re glad to point you toward Guangzhou’s better-known sights and the local food actually worth eating — not just the tourist traps.
Why bother? Because what no one in the industry tells you is this: a buyer who’s stood on your factory floor will forgive a late sample. A buyer who’s only ever seen you on a screen won’t.

We’re not just your salesperson — we’re your person in China
Here’s the line we actually draw inside Marrant Leather Goods. A salesperson isn’t a quote machine. If you’re in Guangzhou and your hotel booking falls through, or your translation app dies mid-meeting, or you just need someone who speaks the local language to sort out a delivery — you call us. That’s the deal.
Email is slow — let’s talk on WhatsApp
We love email. It creates a paper trail. But for back-and-forth on a bespoke briefcase? Email is agonizing.
So once we’ve built a little trust, we ask: can we add you on WhatsApp? Thread color, strap drop, packaging inserts, shipping marks — these are things you should be able to ask at 11 p.m. your time and get a real answer by morning.

The story Melody still talks about (this is the part that matters)
Let me give you a real example.
One of our buyers was finalizing a bespoke briefcase order. He had three questions stacked up:
- The thread color didn’t match the leather swatch he’d approved
- The shoulder strap length was off
- He wanted to upgrade the packaging from a plain polybag to a dust bag with a small branding touch
Bad timing: that exact afternoon, the entire Marrant sales team was in a boardroom. We were doing our quarterly post-trip sharing session — every salesperson presenting what they’d learned from a recent factory visit or market trip. Laptops closed. Phones face-down.
Normally we reply within the hour. That day? We went silent for most of the afternoon.
A lazy salesperson would have left him hanging until morning. Melody, who owned his account, didn’t. She emailed back within the hour and said it plainly:
“We’re in an internal training session this afternoon and I can’t pull up your files right now. Rather than give you rushed answers, let’s set a 20-minute video call tomorrow morning your time. I’ll have every sample, every swatch, every packaging option open on my screen. We’ll solve all three questions in one go.”
She scheduled it. Next morning, video call. Thread color locked. Strap length locked. Packaging upgraded to the dust bag. Three questions, one call, zero ping-pong emails.
That buyer re-ordered twice more that year — including a follow-up run of bulk portfolios for his company’s new hires.

What no one in the industry tells you: if an OEM briefcase manufacturer sends you a price within two hours of your first email, pause. A real factory needs at least 24–48 hours to confirm leather availability, hardware stock, and whether your design is even producible at your wholesale MOQ — especially when you’re mixing one bespoke piece with a run of bulk portfolios. Instant quotes are almost always template quotes — and the price will “adjust” later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Do you only make one-off bespoke briefcases, or do bulk runs too?
Both. We handle one‑off bespoke pieces as well as bulk production orders. Our MOQ for custom orders is 50 pieces. A typical order is a mix — an executive bespoke briefcase for the founder, plus bulk portfolios or briefcases for the team. We are flexible for repeat buyers and accept both small and large‑volume orders. Please share your actual order volume with us upfront. We’d rather be transparent than provide quotes we cannot deliver on.
Q2: We’ve never imported from China before. Will you walk us through it?
Yes. That’s literally what the WhatsApp thread is for. We’ll explain Incoterms in plain language, help with sample shipping, and (if needed) introduce you to a freight forwarder we trust. You don’t need to know everything before your first email.
Q3: Can I visit your factory and showroom before placing a bulk order?
Please do. We’re in Baiyun District, northern Guangzhou, conveniently close to Baiyun International Airport. Once your dates are set, our team will help plan the route for you — and if you’d like, we can arrange airport pickup or call a car to wherever you’re staying, so you don’t have to work out the local logistics on your own. And if you have time to spare in the city, we’ll happily recommend our favorite Guangzhou attractions and local eats. A two-hour walk around the showroom tells you more than 50 emails ever will.
Q4: What if I’m not happy with the first bespoke sample?
That’s normal — samples are meant to be revised. We photograph every adjustment, log it in writing, and re-make the sample until you sign off. We never move to bulk production until you’ve approved the sample in writing (or on video).
The honest summary
Here’s the short version to remember: a great bespoke briefcase partnership isn’t won in a quote. It’s won in the email that answers within the hour. It’s won in the WhatsApp that turns a 20-message thread into one 20-minute video call. It’s won in the salesperson who treats your problem like their own — because in a city you’ve never visited, they are your person.
If that sounds like the way you’d rather work, we’d love to hear from you.
